Trustees proclaim Oct. 9-13 ‘a time to remember… and honor’

At the regular meeting Sept. 26, the Union Township Board of Trustees recognized the Veterans’ Service Commission (VSC) of Clermont County with a proclamation naming Oct. 9 through Oct. 13 as “ … a time to remember and honor all those who have served on behalf of our great nation.”

Robert Derr, a member of the VSC Board of Commissioners, accepted the proclamation for the work of the VSC in partnering with Union Township to bring the American Veterans Traveling Tribute to Veterans’ Memorial Park.

This is a 4/5 replica of the Vietnam Wall Memorial that is in Washington D.C. The wall has more than 58,000 names on it. It will arrive the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 9, be installed overnight at the park, and remain through the closing ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13.

There will be other displays, as well as ceremonies throughout the long weekend, to honor those men and women who were KIA, POW or MIA in the Vietnam War, as well as other wars and tragedies

Gusts should park at the Union Township Civic Center, 4350 Aicholtz Road, where shuttles will be available throughout each day. Limited parking will be available at the park for handicapped, and golf carts will be on hand to help transport those in need to the wall.
