Terrell named Kiwanis October Student of the Month

The Kiwanis Club of Mason recognized Mason High School senior Rickey Terrell as its October Student of the Month. Terrell was nominated by Amy Ortega, MHS Spanish teacher.

Terrell is MHS Spanish National Honor Society President, a member of National Honor Society, and one of one of only 1,600 Black high school students selected as National Achievement Semi-finalists. A National Merit commended scholar, he plans to study engineering.

“Rickey’s leadership skills have played a crucial role in the continuing development of this new society [the Spanish National Honor Society] here at Mason High School. In the classroom, Rickey is a role model for his peers. Through his role as President of SNHS, I have learned that Rickey’s leadership skills and outstanding level of responsibility continue in all aspects of his life! I cannot thank him enough for his continued help and support to make the society an important part of the Mason high school experience. It is not easy to be in charge of a group containing more than 150 members of your peers. I know he will do amazing things in the future,” said Ortega.

On October 17, the Kiwanis Club presented Rickey with $50 and a certificate commemorating his achievement. His parents, Rickey and Valerie Terrell, teacher and assistant principal, Joycelyn Senter, joined the Kiwanians in recognizing his accomplishments. The Mason Kiwanis Club meets weekly at noon at the Houston Restaurant in Mason.
