Springboro District completes administrative team, welcomes new leaders to key positions

The Springboro Community City School District is pleased to announce that hiring of the administrative team is complete for the 2013-2014 school year.

“We could not be more pleased with the team we have assembled for Springboro,” said Todd Petrey, Superintendent. “We have a blend of people who each hold a record of excellence in their own right. Now, we are excited to see what we can accomplish when we all come together for our students, staff and the community.”

Christine Daniel was named Springboro High School (SHS) Principal in June. Two new assistant principals are joining the SHS staff. They are James Aker and Michael Myers.

Aker comes to Springboro with extensive experience in administration as well as athletics and coaching. He was Fairborn High School’s Dean of Students (2004-2009) and the Dean of Students (2009-2010) and Assistant Principal at Baker Middle School (2010-2013).

Myers has been an instructional leader and Assistant Principal for Dayton Public Schools. He also has worked for Northmont City Schools and the Montgomery County Educational Service Center. Myers also brings a unique post-secondary perspective to SHS with his experience as a business math, algebra and calculus instructor at Sinclair Community College since 2006.

At the Junior High School, Brooke Coulter joins the staff as Assistant Principal. She has nine years of teaching experience in the Madison Local School District and Lakota Local Schools with expertise in curriculum design. Coulter replaces Jeff Blakley, who will be the Junior High Principal.

In another internal transition, Kyle Martin moved from Assistant Principal at SHS to Springboro Intermediate Principal. Martin, Blakley and Coulter will be leading sixth through eighth grade students and staff in the district’s new math and language arts curriculum pilot program. An important parent meeting on the sixth through eighth grade math and language arts curriculum will be held on August 1 at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Five Points Elementary welcomes Diane Stacy as Principal. She brings twelve years of administrative experience to Springboro from Fairfield where she served as Assistant Principal of North Elementary (2001-2004) and as Principal since 2004. Stacy’s expertise includes implementing curriculum change, professional development, and intervention programs for reading achievement. Traci Griffen is continuing as Assistant Principal at Five Points.

The administrators at Dennis Elementary and Clearcreek Elementary also are continuing from last year. At Dennis, Sandra Wray is Principal and Terrah Hunter is Assistant Principal. At Clearkcreek, the district’s preschool and Kindergarten building, Jen Johnson is the Principal.

The district’s new gifted coordinator is Deborah Glynn. With more than 18 years of experience in education, including teaching courses on differentiated instruction at Ashland University, Glynn will lead the district in providing gifted services. She has unique experience facilitating parent and stakeholder groups as well.

Also at the district level, John Pennell is the district’s new Business Manager. His leadership in duties including transportation, food services, maintenance and procurement will be complemented by his prior experience as a teacher and assistant principal. Pennell was Business Manager and Executive Director for Administrative Services for the Mount Healthy City School District since 2002.

Springboro’s new Athletic Director is Matthew Louis. Louis was a highly decorated athlete at Mason High school and Muskingum University. He holds a bachelors in business and a M.Ed. in Sports Administration, and he was most recently athletic director for Xenia Community Schools.

The Springboro School District welcomes these new and returning administrators. Parents should update their email preferences through the district website at www.Springboro.org in order to receive back to school news from their child’s building principal.
