School of Rock Mason announces scholarship competition

School of Rock Mason is seeking more intermediate to advanced musicians to join its performance program. It will run an audition contest the week of December 7-13, which will award two full scholarships to its afterschool program. Each scholarship winner will be able to participate in one of the school’s spring shows tuition free. The school will produce three different shows in the spring based on the music of Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, and Talking Heads.

The audition contest is open to musicians who are in 5th grade through senior year in high school. It is limited to students who are new to the school; current and former students are not eligible to compete.

School of Rock Mason has already produced 11 shows since it opened a year and a half ago. It will produce two more in December, with performances of its Van Halen Show on December 13 and 15, and performances of its Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Friends Show on December 14 and 15. Each show is a full out rock concert performed by students at real rock venues in Cincinnati. Students rehearse the shows weekly for about three and a half months before performing them twice over a weekend.
