Mason City Schools, OAPSE approve contract amendment

The Mason City School Board of Education and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) Local 070 approved a contract amendment that freezes wages for OAPSE members for the 2013-2014 school year. All of the district’s administrators, certificated staff (teachers and professional educators), and non-union classified staff already have wage freezes in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. A wage freeze means no cost-of-living adjustment, and no step increase.

The school board unanimously approved the amendment during its August 27 meeting. “We’re pleased that we’ve reached agreement with OAPSE, and that OAPSE’s commitment aligns with the rest of our employees,” said Kevin Wise, school board president.

OAPSE Local 070 represents the district’s custodial, grounds, HVAC and maintenance staff.
