Loveland Stage Company names Furterer president emeritus

The Board of Directors for the Loveland Stage Company recently elected Pat Furterer to the position of President Emeritus.

The honorary position is a life-time appointment with full-fledged voting privileges and responsibilities. Directors are elected for two year terms by members of the Loveland Stage Company. The Board meets regularly to conduct the business of running an award winning community theater.

In announcing the new President Emeritus nomination, the President of the Board, K Buckler, said that “Pat’s appointment was long overdue.” How overdue? About half a century (Pat started in organized theater at a young age!) When Pat and her husband, Fred, moved to Loveland in 1977, Pat already had been acting and directing in Michigan and Pennsylvania community theaters for 25 years. As soon as Pat was settled in her new home, she ran an advertisement in the Loveland Herald inviting other residents to help her start a community theater in Loveland. Ten people responded and met in Pat’s living room to begin the formation of the Loveland Stage Company. The founding members wrote a constitution, which included duties of the officers and committee chairs. Pat wrote the majority of the descriptions. The foundation was laid for a community theater that truly involves the community of Loveland and its surrounding tri-county area.

Since 1979, Pat has acted or helped in every theater production of the Loveland Stage Company. She has been the president of the Board more than a dozen times and served on every executive position. During her terms on the Board and committee chairs, she invited neighbors and residents in Loveland and the surrounding communities to seminars, workshops and mentoring programs for actors and production workers. Her longest tenure has been Chair of the Play Selection Committee. She and her committee members select plays and musicals which are both instructive to the cast and crew members and entertaining to the audiences.

Under Pat’s leadership, the Loveland Stage Company accepted the Crist Theater from the Loveland Firefighters Association and converted the theater from a movie house to a live performance theater. The first free popular holiday shows during the annual Christmas in Loveland festival was directed and produced by Pat. Along the way, Pat’s contribution to community theater has been recognized by the Association of Community Theaters of Greater Cincinnati with many Orchid awards for acting and production including several for excellence in directing her signature ‘sparkling’ shows. Her crowning recognition, ACT’s Art Rouse Award, was given to Patricia Furterer in 2007 for exceptional commitment and dedication to community theater.

Pat continues to contribute as the Chair of the Play Selection Committee and working on show productions as Prop Manager for the fall play and Director of the spring musical. She is always helping as a transparent mentor and friend to many budding actors, directors and producers. Pat’s motto is “Community theater is not about you, it is about giving to the community and to each other”. As President Emeritus, our community theater will continue to grow and benefit from the leadership and vision of Pat Furterer.
