Kings swimmer verbally commits to Marshall University

The pressure of where to go to college is over for Kate Etter.

The Kings High School senior is headed to West Virginia’s Marshall University. Earlier this week the swimmer verbally committed to swim for The Herd.

She will receive a partial scholarship based on academics and swimming.

“I chose Marshall because I really liked the coach. He’s trying to build up the program,’’ Etter said. “I like his passion, I liked their workouts and I want to try training like they do.”

She is a 3-time, Second Team All-League performer. Last season she finished second in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle events at the Easter Cincinnati Conference championships.

Etter also qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s state meet last year where she placed 16th in the 50-meter freestyle.

Swimming since the age of seven, Etter also swims for Countryside YMCA and the Landen Stingrays, where she is an assistant coach.

When she’s not swimming, Etter coaches fifth- and sixth-grade volleyball at Courts for Sports.
