Kings grad in running for Ray Guy Award

A Kings High School graduate is in the running for the 2013 Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation’s top collegiate punter.

Miami University senior Zac Murphy will learn Nov.8 whether he is one of 10 national semifinalists selected from a pool of nominees.

Murphy leads the nation in punting with a 47.4 average, has 15 punts of 50 yards or more, has downed 11 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line and has just six touchbacks this season.

A group of Football Bowl Subdivision sports information directors, coaches. media representatives and past Ray Guy Award winners will select three finalists from the pool of 10 and announce their names Nov. 25.

The voting body will cast ballots to select the winner.
